Max Payne is a cult third-person shooter created by the Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar Games. Originally released on PC in 2001, the project was later ported to PlayStation 2 by Rockstar Canada. In 2003, the game received a sequel — Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

The story transports players to a dark and brutal New York City. The main character, detective Max Payne, experiences a tragic personal loss and becomes embroiled in a whirlwind of conspiracies, betrayal, and criminal intrigue. The narrative is presented in classic noir style: through dark monologues, cinematic cutscenes, and an atmosphere of doom.

The gameplay was a true breakthrough: intense shootouts are combined with an innovative Bullet Time system — a time-slowing mechanic that allows players to control the fight and turns shootouts into spectacular cinematic scenes.

Visually, the PlayStation 2 version captures the atmosphere of rainy New York streets and the underground hideouts of the criminal world. Despite the console's limitations, the developers managed to maintain expressive character design and ambiance, while the adapted controls ensured convenience and dynamism.

Max Payne for PS2 is rightly considered a classic: its noir story, revolutionary Bullet Time mechanics, and cinematic style have made the game one of the most influential and memorable in the history of the genre.
