Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 (RE4, "Resident Evil 4") is a cult classic survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. Chronologically, it is the sixth main installment in the Resident Evil series and a significant overhaul of the familiar formula. Years after its release, the game was also ported to the Nintendo Switch (2019), further cementing its status as a classic.

The events take place in the near future—six years after the story of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The player once again takes control of Leon S. Kennedy, who now works as an agent for the U.S. government. His mission is to locate and rescue the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has been kidnapped and hidden in a mysterious European village.

The main difference of Resident Evil 4 from previous installments is its more dynamic, "combat" gameplay. Instead of fixed cameras, it uses a third-person perspective with free camera control, enhancing immersion and providing more control during shootouts and encounters with enemies.

The gameplay combines survival, shooting, and puzzle-solving. Players must conserve ammunition and health items, adapting their tactics against various types of enemies—from possessed villagers to monstrous mutants. Dark locations, eerie sound design, and enemy design create a dense, oppressive atmosphere.

Resident Evil 4 is rightly considered one of the best entries in the series: the game introduced numerous innovations to the survival horror genre, received high praise for its gameplay, visual style, and atmosphere, and had a significant impact on the development of third-person shooters.
