In Rengoku, the player takes control of an android named A.D.A.M. (Autonomous Dueling Armed Machine). He, along with other androids, was created by humanity for military purposes, but after peace was achieved, the androids were placed in a tower called Purgatory and used to take part in a series of gladiator-style battles.
A.D.A.M., controlled by the player, gains an electronic soul and tries to escape. Once humans realize this, they send the other androids in the tower to destroy him. The gameplay is mainly a shooter mixed with RPG elements. The game features several levels, each one more difficult than the last, with more and more androids to take down. By destroying them, the android grows stronger and gains the ability to upgrade his weapons.
You’ll start out with your bare hands, but eventually you can acquire weapons. Unlike other games, however, weapons are mounted directly onto the android—you can use them from his arms, hands, legs, and even his forehead, with the ability to wield multiple weapon types at the same time.
