Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, also known as Alone in the Dark 4, is a survival horror video game. Developed by Darkworks and published by Infogrames for the PlayStation 2 console, it is the fourth game in the Alone in the Dark series. The development team at Darkworks also worked on versions for PlayStation and Dreamcast.

The game's plot unfolds on the mysterious Shadow Island, where two main characters, Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac, set out to investigate the death of Charles Fiske, who died while studying artifacts capable of revealing an incredible and dangerous power. The investigation leads our heroes to an ancient house on the coast.

Gameplay in Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare combines elements of classic survival horror and puzzles. Players will explore various locations, fight monsters, and solve riddles to progress through the story. There is an option to choose which of the two main characters to play as. Gameplay as Carnby focuses on physical combat against monsters, while Aline's side is more puzzle-oriented.
